Today I went to DiPrato’s with Elizabeth for lunch. And of course, I had a sandwich. I love prosciutto, so I got the prosciutto panini with fresh mozzarella, basil and tomato.

My only regret with this sandwich was that I forgot how much prosciutto they put on this sandwich (you get a lot). The amount is a good thing, the problem is prosciutto is really salty, so there wasn’t much to cut the saltiness. If you’re trying to reduce your sodium intake, this might not be the best sandwich for you.

I developed a little bit of sandwich envy over Elizabeth’s open faced roast beef sandwich with fries. The roast beef looked tender and there was gravy.

Here’s a close-up of Elizabeth’s sandwich. But enough about Elizabeth’s sandwich. This isn’t “Sandwiches Elizabeth Has Eaten,” this is “Sandwiches I’ve Eaten.” If you want to know about her sandwich, you should ask her … or maybe she can do a guest blog (not a bad idea).

Anyway, my prosciutto panini was accompanied by a basil pesto mayonnaise. Quite delicious. Also, I’ll usually seize any opportunity to eat a combo of fresh mozzarella, basil and tomato in any form, so that was one of the things that drew me to the sandwich at first. With all that prosciutto though, I wonder what the sandwich would have tasted like with some melon slices like some cantaloupe on it. Hmmmm, perhaps I’ll have to experiment later. But for now I’ll leave you with a final close-up of my panini.
