When I was in college, we loved to prank each other. One of my favorite pranks to pull was a prank called Wakie Wakie that we would play when we went on a BCM retreat or conference. You wait until people get good and asleep, usually around 3 AM and then you “interview” them. You ask them questions about their favorite ice cream or perhaps how to spell words like “encyclopedia,” you know, anything that might be confusing to a person while they’re still asleep or half asleep.

One of my fellow BCM friends recently posted on her blog a video of her husband laughing hysterically while still asleep. Rebekah just gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, which, while she’s a joy to them, she also doesn’t allow for much time to sleep. This video got me reminiscing about the Wakie Wakie days.

Here’s one of those videos. If you notice my friend Olivia who starts answering questions about animals and Bible verses, she might look rather awake at times, but she is not. She had no memory of her “interview” the next morning. It was great. That might have been the same retreat where we picked her air mattress up while she was asleep on it and moved it outside. We were jerks 🙂

*Even though this isn’t technically a “Flashback Friday” thing, if you enjoy hearing the funny things people say in their sleep, check out sleeptalkinman.blogspot.com. He’s a British guy who says some witty things in his sleep. His American wife records it. It can be fairly crude, just to warn you, but it’s also hilarious.
